#245. Developing English with Japanese TV Program

I have watched TERRACE HOUSE ALOHA STATE ,which is a Japanese TV program broadcasted by NETFLIX.

It was originally broadcasted every manday night by FUJI TELEVISION in Japan. To be honest, I didn’t understand its attractiveness at all at that moment, but I have been preoccupied with this program because of my favorite place, Hawaii.

Of course, the conversation is Japanese, so I can understand easily.

However, I want to use my time to develop my English, so it would be a waste of time with Japanese…

“How cam I do???”

A strategy came to my mind

“Turn down the sound completely and understand with English subtitles!!”

This is more effective method than I had expected!!

The reason is that it helps me

1. Reinforce reading skills
2. build up the ability to understand English directly

I have to catch up with the subtitles which are faster than I had imagined. I can force my brain to work hard, so I can enhance my reading skills.

Moreover, I can’t hear anything, so I need to grasp the exact meanings of the subtitles.

“Reading fast and understanding exactly”

I can accomplish them simultaneously.

Daily conversation is mainly used in TERRACE HOUSE, so you don’t have to worry even if you are beginner in English. The most important thing is to enjoy what you are doing. It helps us learn something effectively.

You can try this method with not only TERRACE HOUSE but also other movies and TV programs as long as they have English subtitles!!
